Normally what people do for hair loss is buy a shampoo that says anti-hair fall, use a fancy hair pack advertised to fight hair fall, or some homemade mixture to apply to the scalp. What we don’t realize or look at is the root cause of hair fall. We are focusing on the symptoms. Just because you spray some incense in your toilet, the dirt doesn’t get cleaned. You have to clean the dirt. For every problem, going to the root is the right way to solve it.

So why hair falls? If sunlight and water are not given, a tree cannot grow likewise hair couldn’t grow when the necessary nutrients are not given. You could imagine a hair strand like a tree. So, giving necessary nutrients is internal. When looking externally, you have to give it moisture and keep dirt free. And there are additional hacks to prevent hair fall. Let us dive in.

Necessary nutrients

When it comes to nutrients, if you understand what each nutrient does to the hair and know which food contain these, it will be easy to keep in mind why iron helps me grow my hair.

  1. Iron

Iron is involved in building hemoglobin which carries oxygen through the blood. So when there is a lack, your scalp also lacks oxygen in its roots. Iron is rich in red meat. Little red meat a few times a week is the best way to get iron. It is also in egg and cheese.

2. Zinc

Helps to make enzymes that produce protein and our hair is made of protein. Without protein, you don’t get thick hair. Again red meat has Zinc. Stress produces the cortisol hormone which requires more Zinc, so when you get stressed your Zinc level will be depleted. So take care of your mental health to have healthy and thick hair.

On the other hand, if you consume a lot of alcohol and sugar, it causes Zinc deficiency. So you get stressed, Zinc depletes, and you drink alcohol due to stress which also depletes Zinc again. Sea shells, oysters, and red meat are sources of Zinc.

3. Omega 3 fatty acids — found in fish

4. Vitamin B7 or Biotin — helps improve the structure of keratin, the protein which helps to make hair, skin, and nails.

5. Vitamin B9 or Folic acid — responsible for healthy cell growth

6. Vitamin C

Provide amino acids used to build hair, antioxidant(prevent cell damage)

7. Vitamin D- help create new hair follicles

5. Selenium — antioxidant , inhibit dandruff

Tips to maintain healthy hair

  1. Don’t overwash the hair — Overwashing dries and removes natural oils. If the shampoo contains sulfate, it dissolves the protein.
  2. Use a sulphate-free shampoo.
  3. Using a conditioner can revive your hair.
  4. Water free of chlorine and fluoride is good.
  5. If you have dyed your hair, use a non-toxic dye.
  6. Lower the stress.
  7. Stop smoking — depletes nutrients, dries
  8. Keep your hair tangle-free by brushing and braid while sleeping to prevent damage by rubbing it against the pillow.
  9. Wash pillowcase frequently to prevent redeposition of dirt in hair.

Summary

  1. Take the necessary nutrients for hair growth through your food.
  2. Give moisture externally and keep it dirt free.
  3. Follow non-hair damaging habits.
